Hi the chosen one! I'm new here, and I may not be here regularly, but i need someone to talk to. Mudbloodandproud
Group meeting[edit source]
Well, I may be able to and I may not. You see, my family and I have a trip scheduled to go see my grandparents, but I may be coming down with an allergy attack, so we may not be going… anyway, that's not the best time for me — I could make it either tomorrow night at around that time or next Saturday at that time, but if I'm the only one that can't make it, don't reschedule just for me. Cheers, Hermione1980 00:19, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Well thanks sooooooo much for inviting me to this little party of yours. Real nice. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:00, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- You'd better thank your lucky Dark Marks I even considered inviting you. ;) User:Chosen One/sig 19:02, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- First you steal my Dark Mark signature, then you don't even invite me to your little meeting. How generous your almighty puniness. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:07, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Did I say that I'm not inviting you to our meeting? Curious, I must have been Obliviated. User:Chosen One/sig 19:09, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Well, everyone else got a nice little note on their talk page, and I didn't see the one in the CPortal until just now. You are still puny. And I know aaaaall about you and that little blood-traitor Weasley girl. I'm watching you. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:24, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- I'm watching you, too, so watch out, or else. ;) Your Horcruxes will be MINE!!! User:Chosen One/sig 19:36, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Hi Chosen One, I would have liked to attend the meeting but unfortunately I have other commitments... I haven't done a whole lot since I started this Wiki, but hopefully I'll be able to find some time in the future. I look forward to seeing the results of the meeting. - SeanR 08:54, 30 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Admins and tools[edit source]
Hello, there isn't yet a version of Kate's tool here yet. Was there something specific you wanted from it? Vostok is able to make you an admin on this wiki, but he hasn't been around for a while. Do you have any experience of being an admin on a MediaWiki wiki? Is there anything you need adminship for yet? Angela (talk) 05:34, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- I've requested the extension be installed here, but I don't think it will work until we upgrade to MediaWiki 1.5. You will need to view your edits here and count them manually for now. I'd suggest you read the Administrators' how-to guide and wait until you have more experience with the wiki before becoming an admin. Unless there is a lot of vandalism here, which so far there isn't, there's not much of a need to have admins, but let me know if that changes. Angela (talk) 11:01, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Sorry I missed it...[edit source]
Something came up at the last second. I was really looking forward to the little chat. I went back and read the discussion. I think we NEED to have at least a few more editors to make this thing even viable. I also think it wouldn't hurt to copy and paste from WP on some article, since they are so complete (some of the books and main characters and such). Then we can go take out the pointless links. I know this isn't great, but then we can go and add our own little style to them. I really think getting editors should be our number one goal at this point. It doesn't really seem that many WP editors in the WikiProject Harry Potter want to edit here, but maybe people outside the wiki world would like this project. Not really sure where or when to advertise. I guess for now just keep plugging away at the articles. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 14:05, 1 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Admin[edit source]
Hi Chosen One. I've made you an admin because of your great contributions, and you seem to have a firm grasp on the direction the Wiki should go in. If for some reason you'd prefer not to be an admin, let me know and I'll make other arrangements. - Vostok 04:53, 9 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- I'd be glad to help in any way I can, and if being an admin is one of them, so be it. User:Chosen One/sig 08:38, 9 Oct 2005 (UTC)

HP Deathly Hallows[edit source]
Hi. I notice you just put a tag on this article asking for it to be de wikipediafied. Which bits are you worried about? I wrote quite a lot of the article on wikipedia, and as such, any of my own work I have included is therefore copyright to me and includeable anywhere I fancy. However, perhaps you are worried it simply looks like the one there, which it rather would since I formatted it the way I wanted there too, but while I also might prefer it to look more different, it was how I thought it best to set it out. Some of it isn't even in their article yet, since it is currently a disputed page. Sandpiper 21:44, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Discretion is a difficult thing, since it is rather a matter of judgement. Before I wrote anything I checked the copyright page here somewhere, and I specifically found a piece saying that if you are the author of something, then you should not tag it as coming from a different wiki, where you had already posted the same thing. It is my understanding of wiki licencing that you are granting wiki a licence to use the material whatever way it pleases, but this is not an exclusive licence. Some people specifically place tags on their user pages with multiple licensing consents for their contributions. If someone copies from wikipedia, then they have to obey the wikipedia licence. However, if they are re-posting their own material, then they are at liberty to re-licence anyway they please. (i.e, you here now own a similar licence on the same material. Anyone copying it to pedia will have to credit you). So, with regard to licencing, I havn't copied anything from wikipedia. However, while I was working on other articles too, I was updating the pedia articles in line with ones I was editing here. So they would naturally be becoming more similar.
- As to the HP7 article, there is also some significant similarity between 'pedia and various websites. The reason I initially became involved with the page was because wiki was posting essentially a straight copy of Lexicon's page at one point. I thought it an important page, so rewrote it pretty much entirely. But all pages of this sort are pretty much a list. But while we are on the subject of copies of pedia, I have now been having a go at Sybill trelawney, which struck me as not only a copy of the 'pedia page, but a rather out of date copy. One I remember rewriting on pedia some time ago too. I do undertsand what you are saying about the importance of making articles distinctive, but there is also the question of whether a distinctive incomplete article is better than a more detailed but rather familiar one. Also, there is a big big difficulty in making articles different, in that they are being presented with the same software and styling. Every page here looks like a wiki page. Sandpiper 10:44, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- As to diclaimers, what does The opinions and theories expressed in this article do not necessarily represent those of its authors or of the Winkypedian community. mean, and where, and under what circumstances might someone want to use it? Has it been vandalised?Sandpiper
- But I am still at a loss as to exactly when and where one might use such a tag. is there a page explaining it, or an example somewhere of it being used? I am of the faction which would argue that analysis of this general sort ought to exist on wikipedia, so perhaps there is a need to be more precise when appealing to my sense of encyclopedic information.Sandpiper 10:44, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- It contadicts Rowling's specific explanatory statements to suggest that Hermione is the one mentioned in the prophecy, and again to argue that despite all the odds Dumbledore will turn up alive. Perfectly consistent he might turn up as portrait, pensieve, note to Harry, whatever, but he will be dead. So these two examples are arguing against Rowling. Not so much possible interpretations, but more like wildcard alternatives to her story. So I would consider them far out. (Though I am not as certain as some seem to be that Rowling would never 'lie' to questioners, but not on this, it is too specific.)
- But I am still at a loss as to exactly when and where one might use such a tag. is there a page explaining it, or an example somewhere of it being used? - Now, debating points whether Snape is a good guy or a bad guy is not in the same sense controversial. Some on wikipedia get shirty about that sort of thing, but I regard it as sensible analysis. But who is going to draw a line where, here? Also, I think others might have the same reaction to the tag as I do, that it looks like nonsense. How can a speculative article not represent the opinions of its authors? Nevery mind what a winkypedian might be. I always have a difficulty with the wikipedian notion of original research, since, at least as some people choose to interpret it, it defies the process of writing an article. To write about Snape, I read about Snape. Then I have to choose which pieces to insert, which to leave out. That is an exercise in editorial judgement, and it is, in my book, original research. But then, I always see things differently.
- Re Sybill, I wasn't hinting it needed a tag, but I'm not necessarily arguing it shouldn't have one, either. I aim to work on it more, but once again I have this big difficulty that if I work on this one, or 'pedias, they have what I see as the same deficiencies, so I incline towards inserting the same stuff....oh, dear. As I said, it is easier, say, for Lexicon to make an article look different because they start by using a different house style. But they also have the same content. The content is what the content has to be, because it is based on what Rowling wrote. Sandpiper 18:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Black Family Tree[edit source]
The Black Family Tree article seems to be almost entirely a picture of the tree as drawn by HP-Lexicon. The image page says as much, but I was wondering exactly what your position is on that. I don't suppose lexicon mind, since in the past they have been happy to be copied so long as they are credited, but all the same. Sandpiper 23:40, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have a family tree program, which while I would normally say produces terrible graphics, it might be coaxed into producing something without too much difficulty, so I will look into it. Sandpiper 10:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've deleted it as a copyvio because it can't qualify under fairuse. I've also sent an e-mail to hp-lexicon asking for them grant us
exclusiverights. John Reaves (talk) 20:44, 25 February 2007 (UTC)- Er, I hope that wasn't exclusive rights, because at the very least I imagine they want to carry it themselves. I can no doubt create a new tree, since the information itself is not copyright, only the presentation. My difficulty is that the information seems to be changing. Lexicon are now posting thee Blacks dying in the same year, Walburga's son, her husband and her brothe Cygnus. Cygnus' new dates seem to have come from the film of OOP. Quite remarkable that 3 Blacks could have died from natural causes in the same year. Sandpiper 09:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- right, see new tree posted. I have taken the view that it is better to include all known information, rather than just what was on the donated version. (ie include the burn-offs and spouses, etc.) This is not in any real way a reproduction of Rowling's version, so it might as well be complete. Sandpiper

Possible vandalism[edit source]
I was unsure about warning the user myself, but I believe that the page "Tristan tzara", which was added 4/26/2007, is a case of vandalism, or at least a bad joke. Tristan Tzara was a Romaniam poet and cofounder of Dadaism. Hence the joke about him being the DADA teacher in book 7. Just wanted to let an Admin know. Thanks! --Wydok 21:34, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Did you hit your head?[edit source]
The simple idea of another admin using a template on a fellow admin is so absolutely ridiculous and beyond any realm of sanity I've ever known that I don't even know what to think. There had to be no doubt in your mind that that was mistake, so I don't understand what on Earth could possibly motivate you to do such a thing. And to say "He tends to get a little confused sometimes"?!? What a condescending little prick you must be. John Reaves (talk) 21:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, sorry about the harshness of that, but I'm still don't quite understand the reasoning behind many of your edits. Calling me "Johnny" and saying "He tends to get a little confused sometimes" are incredibly condescending things to say. You've so far failed to communicate with me an any way (you haven't replied to are previous e-mail conversation nor have you made any on-wiki contact). John Reaves (talk) 02:55, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'd like to ask you both to work a little harder to assume good faith here -- you are both good admins who are experienced enough to work out the misunderstanding over Hermione Granger in a civil way. It looks like it was simply a case of a quick trigger finger on the revert button -- both sides could have looked a little closer at the history and tried to communicate on the article or user talk pages, before "fixing" a page that would have done no harm if it had remained as it was for five or ten minutes.
- ChosenOne, your recent behavior and choice of words does seem a little bizarre, and I can understand why John has gotten upset -- the tone isn't appropriate treatment for someone you trust enough to have as an admin. While you may or may not have understood that using a template on his talk page would irritate him, you would have been better off taking an extra sixty seconds to explain in your own words, as the template didn't do anything to help a fellow admin to understand where the misunderstanding was.
- Likewise, John Reaves, your harsh language and response is equally unacceptable -- while I understand your anger, and that you have already apologized for the outburst, I'd like to ask you to be more careful in the future. I stumbled across this small dispute because a new user asked the staff if this was normal behavior for Wikia admins -- please remember that your public behavior reflects on the project as a whole.
- I think this was a very small and temporary problem, so I don't want to make it sound more important than it is; I just want you both to remember that your words here are public and (relatively) permanent, and visible to newbies and staff alike. Please be patient and kind to each other, and communicate to work out your issues. Thank you! — Catherine o' the ComTeam 22:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Sourced Quotes[edit source]
I was looking over your wiki and I see that it is a well constructed wiki except for the source on quotes. I was looking over the article Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and it seems to have a lot of quotes by J. K. Rowling. I sourced one quote on the article R.A.B., but the ones done by outwide newspapers, I do not know, nor able to find out, where they came from. I suggest that you source your quotes in the normal fashion.

Vandalism[edit source]
I'm just passing through this wiki, and I found quite a lot of vandalism from User:Voldpen15. I've cleared up all the vandalism I could find however I'm not sure about your wiki's blocking policy but you may want to look into one in this case. I've cross posted this to User talk:John Reaves (As he's listed as the other active admin) in hopes that whoever gets to it first can stop before any more damage is done. Hope everything here is going well.

In Universe[edit source]
You reverted my edit on Kennilworthy Whisp, but the "Appearances" section of every other character is out of universe (i.e. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). I understand that everything is supposed to be in-universe. But if you're trying to find where a character has appeared you can't find it in a book that Harry Potter has in the books. You have to find him in "real" books. Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:33, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your point. I have actually read the policy page, I just figured it that that particular section, as well as perhaps the behind the scenes section (?) would naturally be out of universe by their nature. It just doesn't make sense to me how that would be in-universe. Could you give me an example of a "proper" Appearances section, I'm not sure how I would put down some of the other books/films? Thanks.
- Also, on an entirely unrelated point - I did notice there isn't much "official" policy here and many of the pages are set up differently. I was working, with the help of Cavalier One, a Layout guide of sorts, that I was hoping to propose to the admins. Its not quite done - its just like the first draft so far, but if you have any comments... -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 12:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think it would be so terrible if the OOU information is in the articles...as long as it is in seperate sections which are marked to describe them as OOU. I realize we aren't Wookieepedia, that's just where I started (and continue still...) on Wikia so a lot of my "habits" are based out of there and the policies there seem to work pretty well. One last question, how would I post an article in the CommPortal? I've never edited it before. Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 20:06, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- We could make a template for the top of each OOU section that just says something like "Note: This section is out of universe." I'm going to add it to the CommPortal talk page soon. I was figuring all new articles would hopefully be written using the layout guide and slowly all the old ones oculd be rewritten to match it. I agree, rewriting is much much more difficult. I'll see what people think. I'm sure it'll be torn apart before a final copy is made. :) Cheers. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:05, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Its really difficult to write an article entirely from an in-universe prospective. I think the way the Horcrux article has it is fine though - in a seperate section. Speaking of the guide - it was written mostly for "character" type articles, meaning that for other articles some or none of it should be followed. Although I think sections such as "appearances" and "references" should appear in almost every article. I'm trying to get a lot of the crap out of the wiki - I started with uncategorized files and just started either putting them up for deletion or using them. I'm doing articles right now (though the vast majority just need to be categorized). I already categorized the uncatgorized categories. (Did that make sense?) I'm waiting for the cron jobs to run so it updates the cached data and I'll know which pages I haven't done yet! Thanks though. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 06:02, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for the vote of confidence! I agree that we need more admins around here, and am honoured that you think I can do a good job. Like I say, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer at work and try and swing past the HP wiki at least once every hour or two. Deletions[edit source]
I just thought I should tell you this, DarkJedi613 and I collaborated with each other to tag and delete all images that were off inferior quality, double copies (or triple and more), unlicensed , unlinked or nonsense (not belonging to this wiki), there were so many image found and removed and this I believe was our first Clean-up campaign and I thought you should know about this in case you might not like what we did and since you are a Bureaucrat, I thought you should be well informed about what is happening. There are a lot more images and nonsense articles left to be found and deleted and I hope you could help us to keep this wiki free from vandalism and copyright infringements..Cheers..--Cometstyles 23:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Featured Articles[edit source]
Hi - do we have a formal set procedure for promoting Featured Article nominations? I've come up with a few ideas for the Featured Article section (nomination length, promotion time, proper ordering of an FA queue and updating the main page, etc), and wanted to know if we had any guidelines to follow and incorporate. Since the Featured Article section is dear to my heart, I really want to do it justice. - Cavalier One 12:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I got a few ideas, and I don't mind helping to run the FA section, either. I just don't think it'd be right for me to promote my own noms ... ;) I'll work on a rough guide and post it on a subpage for people to peruse. I'll let you know when its up. Percy Weasley is up and done now, but I'm taking a break from the Weasleys to work on Cedric Diggory. Be nice to not have to write red in the hair colour box for a change ... - Cavalier One 14:09, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Featured Articles[edit source]
Hi - I've been working on a proposal guide for Featured Articles to bring the feature up to scratch. Check it out at Featured Article proposal. I'm interested in your views on the matter. - Cavalier One 08:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Layout guide[edit source]
Hey, I've had that layout guide on the Community Portal for a while. No one had any comments to offer just a couple of "looks good", is that alright if I move it to a "Harry Potter Wiki:" page and add a link off the policy page? Also on the policy page, does it state anywhere of our policy to use British spellings wherever there's a difference? If not it probably should. Thanks. (P.S. I replied to your email.) -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 14:26, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
RE: Moving + temp. arrangement[edit source]
Not a problem. Thanks for the update. I hope the move goes well for you, and look forward to your return. We'll keep the wiki alive til you get back! - Cavalier One 14:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Um, I don't really see a need for that. I check the wiki just about everyday and there isn't really a pressing need for bureaucrat actions. John Reaves (talk) 07:55, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- THis is an issue for the community to decide, not you. Were I too suddenly die or whatever, there's always Wikia staff around to make a new bureaucrat. John Reaves (talk) 21:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- NO IT IS NOT YOUR CALL. Why do yo think you have some kind of special authority? Because, you don't. You MUST take this to the community for a vote, decision like this are not up to an individual. I have spoken with Wikia staff, and they agree that this is the best course of action to take. I have no problem with another 'crat, it's your unilateral action that are the problem. Remember, this is a wiki, i.e. it's collaborative and community based. Also, stop being a dick. John Reaves (talk) 12:29, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- For pete's sake, all I'm asking is that you bring this up with community. Really, I could care less if there is a temporary 'crat. All I want is for it to be a community decision as to who it is. Come on IRC if you can, I'll be there for about 20 more minutes. John Reaves (talk) 14:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hope you get this before you go! Good luck on the move and everything, and I'll see you soon. We'll keep the torches burning so you can find your way back! - Cavalier One 08:47, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Good luck! Hope everything goes smoothly. :) -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 11:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

House Points/Quidditch try-outs[edit source]
Hey there! You're a great user on this wiki and you support Gryffindor, so I was wondering if you'd like to join the House points game, in my house (Gryffindor) or any other house. If you join Gryffindor, you'll be able to be on our Quidditch team by signing your name here, at the Quidditch Pitch. Thanks, and I hope you can join me on the team! --Margiechocoholic 07:43, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Workshop[edit source]

New Skin[edit source]
Chosen, Just wanted to give you a heads up that I uploaded a custom theme for the new skin - we're using Harry Potter in a demo video for the changes, and I wanted to add a little color (a new wordmark and graphics on the side). Though we love it, I only ask that you guys leave it up for a couple of hours, and if you don't like - feel free to take it down. Thanks! -- [[User:Lleowen|<font color 23:31, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Videos[edit source]
Hello. I'm with the wiki entertainment team and I have been asigned to ad videos to the wiki. The video rules state that videos of scenes or pieces of the movie are to not to be posted- but we have legally licensed videos of just that. Is it ok to post them now that they are legally obtained or should I steer clear? [[User:Kmanwing]] 23:06, September 21, 2011 (UTC)
